Hats, Gloves and Scarves: Completing Your Cold-Weather Outfit

Categories:

A good jacket handles your core, but your head, hands and neck need attention too. These areas lose heat quickly and are often the first to feel uncomfortable when it is cold.

A hat that covers your ears is the single easiest upgrade. Wool and fleece are warm and comfortable, and a close fit under a hood keeps wind out.

For hands, choose gloves or mittens that match the activity. Mittens keep fingers together and are warmer, while gloves offer dexterity. Layering a thin liner glove under a heavier outer one gives you both.

A scarf or neck gaiter closes the gap between collar and chin, and lets you adjust coverage in seconds. Together with your jacket, these pieces make a system that works in much colder weather than a coat alone.
